Gameweek 3 Preview

Brighton vs Man Utd
Score Prediction: 1-2
After a lackluster performance against Crystal Palace last week I fully expect Man Utd to come out with a point to prove in this one. Brighton played extremely well against Newcastle and won’t be rolled over here but United simply cannot afford to lose more ground to the league leaders.
FPL Tips:
Bruno Fernandes (10.5M) ranks 3 rd among midfielders for creativity this season – expect a goal contribution in this one as he looks to recapture the form he showed last season.
Crystal Palace vs Everton
Score Prediction: 2-2
Both teams come into this one with maximum points from the first two games and I can’t split them here. Palace star Wilfred Zaha is back to his brilliant best and Everton are finally showing signs of a top 6 challenge this season with new signing James Rodriguez taking to the Premier League like a duck to water.
FPL Tips:
Zaha (7.1M) is a bargain at that price if he can replicate his 10 goals and 11 assists from the 2018/19 season. Also, with Milivojevic rarely featuring so far, Zaha could be the Eagles designated penalty taker going forward having already scored one from the spot against Man Utd.
West Brom vs Chelsea
Score Prediction: 0-3
West Brom have shipped in 8 goals in their first two games and with Chelsea looking to bounce back from a disappointing defeat to Liverpool it will be another tough afternoon for Slaven Bilic’ team. Chelsea could also give Premier League debuts to new signings Thago Silva and Ben Chilwell which should sure up their often-shaky defense.
FPL Tips:
Chilwell (5.5M) will be nailed on to play when fit as Lampard lacks trust in his other left back options (Alonso and Emerson). The Englishman likes to get forward and will achieve attacking returns this season, adding to the clean sheets Chelsea can get once the goalkeeper situation is resolved.
Burnley vs Southampton
Score Prediction: 1-1
Two teams without a win so far will face off at Turf Moor and I’m predicting that it will remain that way after the full-time whistle blows. Burnley conceded 4 goals to Leicester with
Tarkowski missing from their usually reliable defense, but they did manage to score 2 goals at the King Power. Likewise, for Southampton, they looked good in periods as they also scored 2 against Spurs, but letting in 5 goals with some shambolic defending is not something that can continue for the Saints.
FPL Tips:
Chris Wood (6.5M) has been a steady scorer for Burnley over the past 3 seasons and after a goal in Burnley’s first game the Kiwi is my pick to be on the scoresheet again this weekend.
Sheffield Utd vs Leeds
Score Prediction: 1-2
The score line has finished 4-3 in Leeds’ opening two games but that won’t happen against Chris Wilder’s defensively sound Sheffield Utd team. I do expect Bielsa’s side to win the game though as they have shown the ability to cut through any team with 3 goals against the defending champs. As for the Blades, I can see them getting one, likely from a set piece, but struggling to score goals once more.
FPL Tips:
Patrick Bamford (5.7M) is the second-most transferred-in striker this week after his impressive start to the campaign. The ex-Chelsea man has been labelled ‘a Championship player’ throughout his career and seems to be out to prove people wrong this season.
Spurs vs Newcastle
Score Prediction: 2-0
It was an emphatic win for Spurs against Southampton with 4 goals from Heung-Min Son and 4 assists from Harry Kane. The pair will cause Newcastle a lot of problems just as Brighton did last week. To make matters worse, Steve Bruce’s team failed to register a single shot on target at home to Brighton and they’ll find it difficult to creates chances against Mourinho’s side.
FPL Tips:
When Kane (10.5M) is fully fit and firing on all cylinders there is no better striker in the league. This is not only a fixture for having Kane in your team but one where he would be my captain pick too.
Man City vs Leicester
Score Prediction: 3-2
This game should provide goals galore as Leicester have scored 7 already this season, albeit against bottom-half teams, and Man City are always a threat going forward. City edge this one for me as the home team and with that extra bit of quality that we so often see from the likes of Kevin De Bruyne.
FPL Tips:
De Bruyne (11.6M) was the best player in the league last season and the Belgian showed no signs of slowing down in his superb performance against Wolves on Monday.
West Ham vs Wolves
Score Prediction: 1-3
West Ham are a tough team to predict as they have the quality to produce unexpected wins against tough opposition, but I am going for the expected in this one with a comfortable Wolves win. The Hammers have not been at the races so far and Wolves are a team with top 6 aspirations this season, especially with no European football to contend with.
FPL Tips:
Although Raul Jimenez (8.5M) is the obvious choice here, and for good reason, I’ve gone for winger Daniel Podence (5.5M) who has played the full 90 minutes in both of Wolves’ league games and got an assist in each. A regular points scorer at his low price is invaluable in FPL.
Fulham vs Aston Villa
Score Prediction: 1-1
Fulham scored 3 goals away to Leeds and still came away empty-handed which tells you everything you need to know about their weakness – the defense. Thankfully for Scott Parker’s side Aston Villa have trouble scoring goals, so I’ve gone for 1 apiece at Craven Cottage.
FPL Tips:
Aleksandar Mitrovic (6.0M) is owned by almost 21% of players as he is one of few viable cheap striker options. As Fulham’s main goal threat and penalty taker he will be a steady pick this season.
Liverpool vs Arsenal
Score Prediction: 2-1
Liverpool have made winning a habit recently, even when they’re not playing well, and I can see a similar story unfolding here. Arsenal have played some great stuff since Arteta took over but they won’t have enough to beat a motivated Liverpool side – something that could be questioned in the last two matches between the two sides.
FPL Tips:
There seems to be a pattern emerging for Liverpool that Mohamed Salah (12.1M) scores more at Anfield and Sadio Mane (11.9M) is favored in the away games. Therefore, the Egyptian will be favored for this match but you can’t go wrong with either of these two.
